EllaKate~ (lots of words today)

I have put this post off because it makes it just SO much more real.
SO real that EllaKate will be starting K in the fall
@ North Hart Elementary~

Something that I never thought she would do...
I've kind of been a little joke here because
when EK was 3, I took her to register for preschool
but never took her in the fall~ just couldn't let her go yet.

Then when she was four,
I actually let her go for almost two months
and just couldn't be away from her and pulled her out again.
Just couldn't let her go yet.

I guess since bringing SJ home
God has been working in my heart to prepare me
for His decision about EK and school.
Really had not given it much thought~
just thought I would be homeschooling her and that was that.
A precious friend even offered to let me borrow her curriculum
for a year before we chose our own.
Scott tried several times to talk to me about it but I wasn't listening.

In the last few months,
I have caught glimpses of how much EK has matured
and how much SJ needs me for comfort and security.
Then in the fall, we will add Will to the mix of attachment and bonding.

School is not a new thing for us.
I taught K, 1, and 2 for 18 years before bringing EK home
then God changed my heart from teaching to being home in 2006.

SO why the big deal???
I was always THERE with the big girls,
seeing them throughout the day,
talking with their teachers,
and knowing the inside scoop of all that was going on.

Now I will drop her off,
watch her walk in on her own,
go home and pray her through the day,
and come back to scoop her back into the security of her family each day.
A big step of faith for both of us!!!

SO Friday, I took EK to register and she is SO excited!!!
Everyday since she has said,
"I really wish I could start to school right now!".
That makes my heart feel good~
she's ready even if I'm not. LOL
Praying already for her year ahead
and all the sweet teachers/people who will touch her life.

Jeremiah 29:11

For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD,

“plans to prosper you and not to harm you,

plans to give you hope and a future.

  1. It is really hard to send them off isn't it?? I took my baby boy to college on a Saturday and John David to Kindergarten on Monday....I think Hank thought I was going to have to be medicated haha. We made it though and John David has always loved school. Another one of those things in how our lives change all the time. I will be praying for you!! So glad EK is excited, she is going to do great!

  2. I think this is a great decision for EllaKate. She seems like a very social child and you have given her a wonderful foundation. She has been such a big help in SJ's adjustment. Now it is her time, as you will have your hands full with Jing and Will. EllaKate is SUCH a darling child. She will do so well in school. I'm so glad she is excited about it!

  3. Laurel cried for the first few weekends of her kindergarten because she was upset that the weekends KEPT her from school! Boy howdy has THAT changed.

A month or so ago, in my quiet time while I was worrying about what to do about one of the girl's futures, God gently reminded me of the Waterford Crystal factory we toured in Ireland last fall. I seemed to "hear" God ask me if I would step in and take over cutting the glass bowl from the craftsmen who had been doing this lovingly for the last 32 years. No, certainly, my involvement would have the bowl cracked or very odd looking. I got the message. God is in control of their path, I really just need to listen with discernment and then get out of his way. So very hard for a mom (and teacher-I stopped though before Megan was born)

No advice meant, just letting you know that even now, God clunks me over the head with a visual reminder that as much as I love my girls, He loves them more! Good luck to sweet EK! Can't wait to hear about all of the fun she has :)

  5. I am soooo feeling you right now! I really feel that Briana is totally ready for kindergarten. I am the one having a hard time sending her to big kid school in August. I will probably cry the whole first day! I will be thinking of you those first few weeks! Good luck EK!

  6. Big decision, huh? I am TOTALLY waffling about preschool for next year. Just don't love the school she is at, and don't like that it is 3 days a week. :( Would love to homeschool, but just not sure.

I bet EK will love it, and it does sound like a great decision for all three of the littles.

  8. Bless your sweet mommy heart! Kindergarten is such a big step! Kamree and I went to Kindergarten jump start last week and I thought I was fine with it, but I ended up crying after all! Our girls will be just fine and it will be so fun to watch them experience new things this fall.

  9. So glad you got to go on Friday and Sandra was there to greet you! And that EllaKate is so excited about it! I understand how it'd be easier if you were there teaching each day. But you can be comforted in the fact that there'll be so many people in that school that know her, love her, and will take care of her while she's there. The biggest one being God! You can always go over and volunteer too! It'll be fun to hear about all the neat stuff she does next year.

  10. Oh, girl. Mya has TWO days of preschool left. Her teachers told me on Monday that every time they bring up Kindergarten Mya gets tears in her eyes!! :(

I know she will love it though! So will EK!
