The Big Dilemma

Naptime... the big dilemma. About 2 months ago, I thought EK was about ready to give up naps. Then she was diagnosed with mono so naps have continued until now. She never wants to lay down for a nap... she cries and says she doesn't want to get in her bed. But... after about an hour of playing around, she always falls asleep. She does feel better but at bedtime we go through the same routine.

So I decided today we would try something different. Right after lunch I told her it was time for rest and I allowed her to lay on the sofa and watch a movie. She jumped right up without so much as a frown. Several times I thought she was falling asleep but she stayed awake and seemed happy even with no sleep. Now we are going out for a swim and hopefully transition through the afternoon with no nap- how many break downs do you predict? I know it will take time... Are there other moms out there going through the same thing? Love to hear from you!!!

  1. I would say Briana naps maybe 4 days a week. If she is not really physically active in the morning, then most likely she will not nap. If she doesn't nap - then it is early bedtime! As she gets older, the grumpiness in the evening gets less and less!

  3. If Ally gets a nap, she is easier to get to bed at night. If she doesn't it seems she "crosses a point of no return" and can't settle down. She never wants to nap and doesn't go willingly (she did for Miss Sheryl, but not for me - ever!).

  4. Sorry I have no words of wisdom. I'm just dreading when Olivia's time comes.

  5. Found your blog a couple of months ago and enjoy reading about your adventures. When my daughter (now 13) was trying to give up naps, I came up with quiet time. I bought a timer and set it for 30 minutes and put it in her room. She could sit or lay on her bed and look at books or hold her doll. If she got up, the timer was reset for 30 minutes. If, she fell asleep (and it did happen sometimes), then I snuck into the room and removed the timer. the quiet time really helped with the rest of the day and it gave up both a break.

  6. I'd say she'll start giving up her nap altogether pretty soon and just go to bed earlier. That's what happened when Abby turned 4...it was hit or miss with her naps when she was 3 and 1/2. The quiet time idea is great...we still do that sometimes!
